Reader FAQ

Common Questions

Is the High Yield Board Prep blog research-backed?

Every post cites peer-reviewed research from journals like Academic Medicine, Medical Science Educator, Psychological Science, and BMC Medical Education. Citations appear at the bottom of each article. No post is opinion-only, and no post repeats proprietary tutoring methodology. The paid Study Blueprint is separate.

How often are new posts published?

Roughly one to two new research-based posts per month. Older posts are updated when new evidence is published or when USMLE Content Outline revisions change what is high-yield.

Do I need to be a tutoring client to read the blog?

No. All posts are free to read with no signup. The blog exists to give medical students evidence-based direction on Step 1 prep even if they never work with High Yield Board Prep directly.

Which post should I read first?

Start with NBME Score Interpretation to calibrate your practice scores, then Optimal Study Schedules to build a plan, then How Long Should Your Dedicated Period Be to right-size your timeline.

Where do the study statistics come from?

All statistics are sourced from published research, USMLE annual reports, or official NBME/UWorld documentation. Citations are listed at the end of each article and every claim links back to a primary source.

How is this different from First Aid or UWorld tips?

First Aid is a content reference. UWorld explanations teach content. These posts are about the meta-level of preparation: how to structure study time, interpret assessments, diagnose wrong-answer patterns, and make data-driven decisions about delaying, retaking, or scheduling the exam.
